Guide to Window Blinds Shopping in Sydney

Here’s a practical guide to choosing the right set of door and window blinds that suit your Sydney home or business.

For French doors
As a rule of thumb, window blinds material for French doors should be consistent with those already installed in the room. Blinds that have small slats are ideal, as well as those with woven wood shades. If you prefer to completely control the amount of light that enters the room, it is recommended to use blackout roller blinds or honeycomb shades.

For windows that offer great views
If you have a large window that provides you with a scenic or panoramic outside view, it is recommended to use a shade that pulls up as tightly as you need. Honeycomb shades also work extremely well. You may also want to check out the top-down/bottom-up types.
For arches
For arch windows, one of the popular window treatments is the honeycomb shade, which can be made to correspond to the shape of the window quite nicely. Although horizontal blinds can be customised to fit arch windows, they can be a bit costly.

For bay windows
Most types of window blinds can work quite well with bay windows. However, it’s recommended that a sheetrock is placed between the windows to avoid having gaps between the blinds.

For second story windows
For the windows upstairs, it’s recommended to use the top-down/bottom-up type of blinds. They allow you to cover the bottom half of the window for privacy, leaving the upper half free for light to shine inside the room.

For sliding doors
Vertical blinds are highly recommended for sliding doors, although they may be less preferred these days. However, for consistency, you may want to choose vertical blinds only when the other blinds in the room are of the same type. These types of window blinds may be installed over the glass or within the frame.
